Tips for Searching the Index
Most names in the Pioneer Index are sorted alphabetically by last name, but many individuals are "hidden" in the index because they are non-pioneer spouses who may not have resided in Rock County in 1870 or before. These "hidden" names can be searched easily by using your browser's "Find" feature:
- PC users can use the Ctrl+F key combination (hold down the Control Key and then press the F key) to bring-up the "Find" dialog box into which you can type a surname you seek. Then repeatedly click the "Find Next" button to move from the highlighted occurrence of the surname to the next until the entire web page has been searched.
- Macintosh users can use the Apple+F key combination (hold down the Apple Key and then press the F key) to bring-up the "Find" dialog box into which you can type a surname you seek. Then repeatedly click the "Find Next" button to move from the highlighted occurrence of the surname to the next until the entire web page has been searched.
What does it mean if a Pioneer File has "zero pages" available?
Here is an example : Amanda Bentley appears in the Pioneer Index, but when you read horizontally across her information, the next-to-last column entitled, Number of Pages shows 0 (zero) pages available for copying. The fact that Amanda Bentley appears in the index with no pages shown means that she her information is found in a family member's Pioneer submission, not her own.Use your browser's Find Feature as described above, to find the Pioneer submission in which she appears again as a spouse or child.
