Genealogy 101 - Fundamentals of Family Research (and Beyond)
PROGRAM PRESENTER: Dave Bradford is a U. W. graduate with degrees in medicine and business who speaks regionally to history and genealogy groups about technology and medical topics. He has been a member of the Rock County Genealogical Society and the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center for more than 30 years, and has served board chairperson and secretary of the RCGS. He is currently the long term webmaster for the Society.
PROGRAM SUMMARY: Researching your one’s family history, is the second-hottest hobby in the US and UK; only gardening is more popular. While there are a few professional genealogists, the majority of family history buffs are self-taught. This program is designed to help both new and experienced hobbyists become more effective and systematic researchers. Beginning with living relatives and available household photos & papers and progressing to online services and local courthouse records, participants will learn how to evaluate evidence, cite sources, connect and collaborate with “cousins”, and, importantly, avoid the 10 most common genealogical mistakes.
