PROGRAM PRESENTER
David Bradford is a UW grad with degrees in medicine and business who speaks regionally to history and genealogy groups about technology and medical topics. He has been a member of the Rock County Genealogical Society and the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center for more than 25 years and has served board chairperson and secretary of the RCGS. He is currently the long term webmaster for the Society. In addition, he and Janet Bradford have indexed multiple atlases, plat maps and out-of-print historical books. He was recognized by the Wisconsin Genealogy Society in 2012 with the Virginia V. Irvin genealogy award.
PROGRAM SUMMARY
This program has the objective of teaching online family researchers how to conduct web, image, map, book and other Google searches using search tips and tricks, including Boolean Logical operators, to produce narrow, focused search results that reduce the tens of millions of trivial and unrelated results, by restricting the search list to fewer than 100 total "hits" AND forcing your sought-after ancestors into the top 20 of your search results. Dave will provide hints about techniques to force google to include vital search terms and to exclude terms that consistently muddy and obscure your results list. In addition to exploring aspects of Google's search syntax, the program will reveal Googles little-known advanced search page which automates and simplifies much of the search rigor, allowing novice users access to Google's most powerful search features.
